August 2011 Chapter Visit to Piper Museum at the Salem Airport
We had a very good presentation by Mr. Lowell Depoy, at his Piper Museum in Salem, Indiana. We were met at the Salem Airport entrance with a welcoming sign to Chapter 1042, and signs directing us to his hanger.
Lowell and his wife Rhonda provided refreshments to everyone at the beginning before the tour. Lowell then gave a brief presentation of the history of Piper from the very beginning to the present, and he discussed all models of Pipers through the years, and the part they played in the development of general aviation. It gave us a greater understanding of Pipers part in our aviation world of today.
We had a hands on look at three historic planes, and many other aviation related items. Planes on display were the historic, and beautiful J-2, the J-3 Cub, and the Tri-Pacer.
We want to say thanks to Lowell and Rhonda for a splendid evening, and a very interesting talk. This was written by Truman Sager. I was unable to attend due to work.
